Self Defense first.

We had a culture that was one of the best. But now, all we have is the remnants of the past that people often bring about to an argument to state that they still follow that "culture" even though they might not even know anything about it.

Kalarippayattu was one of the most ancient and useful forms of martial arts (with or without weapons).Best thing about that?
It was native and one of the best.
what did we do to it? -- NOTHING!

While the Chinese, Thai and the Philipinos spread their martial arts through the medium of cinema, and public exhibitions and competitions, Indians, with a more wide variety of native techniques in the art of combat, preferred sitting in front of the big screens and television sets trying to admire their skills, which seemed quite supernatural.

Only a handful of Indian movies portrayed the beautiful and elegant art of Kalarippayattu. The art which should have been taught from school days, was left to die, where a few people picked it up, tried to revive the dying art.

Simply said, people don't care about martial arts in today's busy lives, where they give more importance to electronic gadgets and movies and make up.

But this article is not about Kalarippayattu or why it failed. It's about something different.

In the present world, we hardly see a day pass by without reading a news article on assault on women, a rape, a theft or robbery, and likewise. While people light candles and shed crocodile tears on the matter, had anyone (including the so called "politicians") really thought about what they could have done in real life to avert similar incidents in the future? I guess that's a NO!

Please watch the below video and then read the rest.

The video depicts a local Muay Thai tournament (the art of 8 limbs) wherein a young girl beat the living hell out of a male opponent. While this might be fun to watch, if you really think about what every girl can do if she learns to protect herself, that might pretty much be the end of majority of the bloodshed and trauma.

Last day, I happened to see a news about a Karate training center dedicated for young girls. The training and tournaments were specially for them. Felt happy watching that knowing there are at least a few parents who give importance to such extra curricular activities.

That being said, any form of martial art, whether it be Karate, Kung fu, Muay Thai, Kalarippayattu, Taekwondo, or anything else. instills a feeling of courage within and with proper commitment and training, one can easily master the necessary skill to escape from an adversary.

Who knows, if they get really interested in the field, they could even go so far,as to grasp some Olympic medals for the country.

Self Defense is really a choice (even though it's a necessity, it should be categorized as a choice). A choice one must select knowing that this choice will be with them till their last breath.A choice that might some day be their life saver. One can willfully take that choice and stay safe, or avoid that choice without thinking about the future.

One might think, in today's modern world of advanced weapons, what good might self defense do!
But always think this fact. When stranded in a remote island with no one to save you, a knife and a piece of rope can help you survive.
I assure you, self defense can help you in achieving the impossible.

The good days are not far.
Make self defense a part of the daily routine.
Expect the unexpected, and prepare for it.

P.S : This is no advertisement for anything. Live happy. Enjoy life. :)
